Home Remedy Insomnia

Home remedy insomnia or for insomnia I should say, should not be tried until you first contact your doctor. Many people would rather try natural remedies rather than prescription medications these days for any health problems including insomnia. Home remedies and natural cures have fewer side effects than medications do.

Hops are often used to help people sleep. This herb has been used medicinally since the 17th century. The American Indians even used hops as a sedative and the dried flowers were good for toothaches. Hops are also known to calm anxiety.

A very poplar herb called Valerian is quite effective in relaxing one’s muscles and nerves and helps them fall asleep with ease. This works great when you can’t get that mind to turn off or if you are just quite tired. No side effects have been reported in using this.

Some people have taken kava, which is an herb. This you can take a couple of hours prior to you going to bed. It is said to reduce tension, stress, relax muscles, and feelings of anxiety. You can sleep nice and sound and wake up refreshed. But use this with caution it can build up in the liver and cause problems.

You can also make a tea using one teaspoon of each of the following: hops, chamomile flowers, and valerian root in a cup of boiling water. It needs to brew for about 45 minutes. Then you need to strain before drinking it about an hour before you go to bed.

Another home remedy insomnia is relaxation techniques like that of meditation, yoga, and visualization. Meditation usually involves in focusing the mind off of problems in order to relax. There are several methods that are used in meditation. Yoga is reported to be relaxing for mind and body both. With visualization you picture some nice place like a tropical island and try to use all your senses to take you there. This helps to relax you at bedtime.

There are diet changes you can make by doing the following:

· Eliminate sugar especially in the evenings. Sugar gives you burst of energy and then leaves your blood sugar levels out of whack for the rest of the night. This can cause you trouble sleeping.

· Quit consuming caffeine for this has a huge effect on how you sleep. Even caffeine consumed during the day can keep you from a good night sleep. Many foods such as chocolate have caffeine hidden in them.

· DO eat foods that will help you sleep. Tryptophan, which is in turkey, will help you sleep. Calcium is known to help some people. Certain Carbohydrates too.

· Magnesium is good naturally based sedative. It also helps with leg cramps, restless leg syndrome along with the sleeping.

There is enough home remedy insomnia that you should be able to find one that suits you. At least with home remedies you have little chance of side effects if you use them wisely. So you may check a few of these out to see if they help rid your life of insomnia.
